Aggie’s Journey – “why quality and safety in health care really matters”

On Thursday 10th April, Maureen Willson shared her insights and experience with a group of healthcare risk professionals. When consumers enter a hospital to receive care, Maureen explained, they rightly expect that the care they seek is provided safely, is of a high quality and has a predictable outcome. The presentation that followed, ‘Aggie’s Journey – why quality and safety in health care really matters’, followed the journey of a patient who was admitted to three major metropolitan hospitals and how the outcomes from the episodes of care irrevocably changed Aggie’s life. This highly engaging and passionate presentation was also a study in the application of the new National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards. There were shared learnings for health care providers in the public and private healthcare sector, for government safety and quality program staff, for executives, managers, clinicians and consumers alike.
